A typical day
Sample timings for a 09:00 Southampton dock arrival and a 19:00+ Heathrow transatlantic departure. Driver flexes the schedule if your ship docks early or late.
- 09:30
Southampton terminal pickup
Driver meets you in the terminal arrivals hall with a name board, ~60–90 minutes after the ship's scheduled dock time (timing built around your booked self-disembarkation window). Luggage loaded into a cruise-luggage-sized vehicle — no taxi-rank queue, no scramble for a black cab.
1h 20m drive north-east via M3
- 11:00
Windsor — 60 minutes at the castle
Last royal stop before flying home. Working royal residence, the world's oldest occupied castle, St George's Chapel and the Long Walk. Quick pub-lunch option on the High Street if appetite's back after the cruise.
1h 30m drive west on the M3 / A303
- 13:30
Stonehenge — 90 minutes at the stones
World Heritage neolithic monument. Visitor centre, audio tour, cafe and shop. Pre-booked entry tickets recommended (we can include them on request). A peaceful counterpoint to a week or two at sea.
1h 30m drive east on the A303 / M3
- 16:30
Heathrow Airport — drop off
Drop at your terminal in time for the standard 3-hour pre-flight check-in for transatlantic departures. Driver helps with luggage to the kerbside; trolley pickup is a few steps away.
Vehicles & fixed prices
Price is per vehicle, not per person — Windsor & Stonehenge waiting time included. Cruise luggage is bulkier than airport luggage; up-size one class if you're close to capacity.

US cruise passenger FAQ
Answers to the questions Cruise Critic, TripAdvisor and Rick Steves forum threads ask the most.
When should my return flight be for this Southampton-Heathrow-with-Stonehenge tour?+
For a 9 AM disembarkation, aim for a Heathrow departure no earlier than 7 PM (drop at 16:30 + 3h international check-in). Earlier flights work if you skip Stonehenge (then you can be at Heathrow by 13:30); later flights give a more relaxed pace at each stop. We can rework the itinerary on the day.
Where exactly does the driver meet me at Southampton Cruise Terminal?+
Inside the arrivals/baggage hall of your specific terminal (Ocean, Mayflower, QEII or City) with a name board showing your surname. We track the ship via AIS and flex the meet time to actual dock time, not scheduled time. There's no surcharge if disembarkation runs late.
How long does disembarkation usually take?+
Self-assist disembarkation is typically 30–60 minutes off the ship; full disembarkation by passenger-assist runs 60–90 minutes. Customs is usually quick for UK / EU / US passport holders. We build a 60-minute buffer into the pickup time so you're never rushed off the ship.
Can the driver wait if disembarkation is delayed?+
Yes — first 60 minutes of dockside waiting is free, AIS-monitored so the meter never starts running while you queue customs. After 60 minutes, a small per-15-minute wait fee applies (fully disclosed at booking). Disruptions on disembarkation day are common; you're not penalised for them.
Will 4 large suitcases plus carry-ons fit in a saloon?+
No — for cruise luggage book an Estate (4 large + 2 carry-ons) or MPV-7 (7 large + carry-ons). The Saloon is fine for 1–3 passengers travelling light, but most cruise families up-size one class for the disembarkation transfer.
How much does the tour cost?+
From £350 for a Saloon (1–3 passengers, 2 large bags + 2 carry-ons). MPV-7 from £450 (1–7 passengers, 7 large bags). MPV-8 from £550. Minibus-12 from £750. Fixed price per vehicle, not per person. No surge on busy turnaround days, no tipping expected.
Do I tip the driver in the UK?+
No — tipping is not expected. The price you see is the all-in price. A small tip is appreciated for exceptional service but never required.
Are Stonehenge or Windsor Castle entry tickets included?+
Not by default — pre-book direct from English Heritage (Stonehenge) and the Royal Collection Trust (Windsor) for the best price and timed entry. On request we can pre-book on your behalf and add to the booking. Allow ~£25 adult / £15 child for Stonehenge and ~£30 adult / £15 child for Windsor.
Can you pre-pay in USD or do I need GBP?+
Pre-paid online by card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). Stripe converts at the live exchange rate at checkout — no FX surprise. No cash needed anywhere on the journey. We email a paid GBP receipt for your travel records.
Can I book the embarkation transfer (Heathrow → Southampton with the same stops) at the same time?+
Yes — the embarkation-day mirror tour (Heathrow → Stonehenge → Windsor → Southampton) is available too. Book both legs in one transaction and lock in both fixed prices. Many US cruise families book the round-trip pair as soon as they finalise their cabin.
